This event is in progress at the moment in Turkey (Nov. 11-23) and we are all interested to see how Chess Kids Superstar Bobby Cheng performs in the 12 and Under Event.

Bobby has done very well in previous years and is seeded fourth in this year’s event. I’ve been checking out the tournament’s web site and it’s a huge and spectacular event being played in 5 stadia! In the 12U event alone there are 142 players. Just have a look at the picture of the hall.

The World Youth 12U Playing Hall!

I compare this with my playing days when I played in the World Junior Championships in Athens in 1971 and there were only 41 players!   Times have changed.

Bobby has dropped half a point in the first four rounds and has 3.5/4 to be just behind the leaders.  You can follow some of the games live on the website plus there are numerous photos and videos of the event.   They seem to be behind schedule in publishing all of the games, but I hope that they will be there soon so that we can have a look at how Bobby is playing.

Of course there are Australians playing in the other events also, and I hope to have a look at their progress when I get a chance.  Hope you can join me.

Meanwhile ….. go Bobby!
