Chess Kids school incursions are popular as an introduction to chess for an entire school, as Master Classes or with schools that are a significant distance from the CBD. The also play a useful role in maths or extension activities days.

What happens during an incursion?

An experienced Chess Kids coach will provide a program consisting of at least three separate topics out of our extensive chess curriculum; chess fundamentals, openings, endgames, tactics, famous players, strategy, piece power, gambits, sacrifices, lateral thinking, problem solving, visualisation, pawn structure, concentration, cornering the king, open files and much more!

Each program involves both theory and the application of that theory in practical situations. In order that the coach is able to provide individual assistance during the day we usually limit the number of students in each group to a maximum of 30. We can then run up to 6 groups during a day or provide multiple coaches (at additional cost) to cover large schools.

One of the most exciting parts of any incursion would be the chess exhibition. The coach would challenge up to 30 players at once and award major prizes for anyone who can win a game! We can also loan the school a giant chess set for use during the preceding, or subsequent, days. The incursion often winds up with a quick chess tournament, again with prizes for the winners.

What does an incursion cost?

• Full-Day $750
• Half-Day (4 hours) $600
• Quarter-Day (2 hours) $400
• Demo/exhibition (1-1.5 hours) $300

All prices exclude GST. The GST can be claimed back by a registered educational institution.

Are there any additional costs?

Schools more than 45 minutes travel time from the CBD may incur additional travel charges. A good way to share, or avoid, these costs is to arrange with neighboring schools to book Chess Kids for consecutive days.
